Ahh the 4th of July, Independence Day, one of my all-time favorite holidays! Fireworks, parades, tons of food, people everywhere, and games of hide and go seek, fishing, boating, ticks and mosquitoes. Hold up! Ticks and mosquitoes??? That’s not one of my fond memories of our great nation’s birthday celebration! These pests are not acting very American, biting up all of us celebrants.fireworks Remember during the Revolution, we fought against the red coats? Yeah, well, mosquitoes and ticks, if you look close enough, they wear tiny little red coats as well. They are the King’s pests. Have you heard of Mosquito Squad? I like to think of Mosquito Squad as the Anti Mosquito Militia. We are like the farmer’s and common folk who took up arms to stave off the red coats, only we are fighting off mosquitoes and ticks. The similarities are uncanny really. If you ask me, Mosquito Squad is the epitome of an American Company, dedicated to keeping this fine country mosquito and tick free. And if you don’t ask me, the same applies.

I remember this image. It’s on the Twilight Zone pinball machine, from the 90s. Cool.

Anyhow, now that I’ve gotten all of that goofiness written out for you, let’s get down to serious business…Let’s talk about a few plans/memories/thoughts on the 4th of July weekend! I understand that this weekend should be enjoyed outdoors, however, what if it rains!? Or, at least, what are you going to do indoors for part of the weekend? I have just the thing. My favorite show, every 4th of July weekend is aired, marathon style! The Twilight Zone! A full day of the most awesome sci-fi show ever made! For those of you who don’t know, The Twilight Zone was a series that ran from 1959 to 1964. It’s a black and white show, which really adds to the eeriness of the episodes. The show is an American classic, hosted/created by Rod Serling. Definitely take some time during your Independence Day and check out at least a few episodes. I’ve seen every episode and own “The Twilight Zone Companion”. Yeah, I’m a huge dork. Here’s more info: Twilight Zone Marathon!

I have many fond memories of the 4th of July. My Grandfather owned a house on a lake, we called it “Camp”, where I fortunately spent all of my summers growing up. Every 4th of July was a huge celebration, people everywhere. All around the lake you could see fireworks going off on every beach. You could smell hot dogs in the air and the excitement and energy were ubiquitous. People would put road flares on each of their beaches, creating a massive circle of red lights surrounding the lake. When it got dark enough, a local park would display a spectacular fireworks show over the lake. Those were the days.

I remember once on the 4th of July, I accidentally shot off a bottle rocket through a neighbors screened in front porch. Luckily, they weren’t home.bottle-rockets-120703 Come to think of it, it may have been intentional. Man, I was a wild and goofy kid. Have a blast with all of your fireworks (pun intended)! However, use caution and good judgement. By the way, Mosquitoes hate fireworks. I’ll be launching off a ton, for work of course! Happy 4th of July from The Squad!
